Ranger Roundup - Week 6
Welcome to our new blog! Each week, our Summer Rangers Anj, Finn and Becca will be providing a roundup of all that's happening at the BMR. Read on to find out more about the new rangers and what they have been up to in their fifth week.
Marine Education Centre
Our first week of the MEC based in the Hippodrome was a success! We had plenty of visitors, and it was great to talk to so many like-minded people about our amazing marine environment. Our jellyfish smack has grown even more, and everyone enjoyed seeing Kevin hiding in his cave! We are looking forward to welcoming even more people throughout the next few weeks. On Friday 15th we have a talk by our head ranger, Anj, all about whales at the Hippodrome, so come along if you want to learn more about these huge marine mammals!
It's interesting to see how far people have travelled to visit Eyemouth and how their amble has led them into the Hippodrome. Everyone has commented on how they have learned something new since visiting us.
WDC Shorewatch
On Wednesday, we conducted another Shorewatch from Eyemouth. Unfortunately this Shorewatch was uneventful, and there were no marine mammals spotted. However, it was a lovely day for it! Maybe they were all getting ready to make an appearance for our BioBlitz on Sunday.
BioBlitz
On Saturday, the Berwickshire Marine Reserve and National Trust for Scotland held the summer 2025 BioBlitz events, aiming to record as many species as possible in one day across the St Abbs Head National Nature Reserve and Berwickshire Marine Reserve. There were lots of different events happening, including rockpooling, snorkelling, and an insect safari. It was such a great day, and we hope everyone had lots of fun searching for species of all shapes and sizes. So far, we have over 570 species identified, but we are still counting, and hopefully we can beat the 601 record from last year! Thank you to everyone who got involved and found lots of species for us. We couldn’t have done it without you all!

The BioBlitz was such a fun-filled day! We managed to get involved with a whole range of activities. Anj's highlight was going out snorkelling, and we saw a whole range of magical creatures. When we made our way out of the water, we were then visited by a small pod of dolphins! Another species to add to our list!
